OTHER HAPPENINGS

***The Open Mic Jam by Terrance Reeves and Andrew Geano

ANNOUNCEMENT!

You, the person reading this, have been a contributor to an event that has lasted for 7 years. We started at a place called "Smoken' Joe's". It was a BBQ & Blues joint that (on paper) wouldn't normally host an open mic like ours. With almost exclusively non-blues acts, we needed a place to call home, a place to be ourselves, and share our thoughts, musings, and feelings. And Smoken' Joe's delivered that for so many of us. It provided the foundation of what was to come. There is still talk of "the Smoken' Joe's days", when we worked and played arguably too hard but we were in it together. We had quite a few other hosts throughout the years and even a stint at Darryl's Corner Bar & Grill.

Near the end of Smoken' Joe's, another open mic started in Newton, at an Irish Pub called Terry O'Reilly's. This is where we found our stride. We had a space that was so supportive of us and letting people share that was the starting point for many creative projects, jams, and lifelong relationships. Too many memories to begin to try to write out, but the amount of gratitude we have for that space and time is immeasurable.

When Terry O'Reilly's closed at the beginning of the year, we moved over to Bill's Pizzeria on Mondays. And we're still there. But, the cliche proves true that all good things must end. We want to go out properly, so the next few weeks will start our send off. This leaves 10/28, 11/4, 11/11, 11/18, 11/25, and Monday, December 2nd, 2019 as the last Open Mic Jam. We want to show a lot of love to our last home, Bill's, and want to invite you to come by and grab a slice/drink and give us an opportunity to attempt to properly express how much you mean to us. Online Sign Ups are available in our "About" section on Facebook.

You may be asking "why now," a fair question. For starters, Terrance is planning a 6-month around the world trip with his newly wedded wife. He and Danielle are quitting their regular jobs and will be headed to New Zealand, Australia, Southeast Asia, and on. The trip is a bit open-ended, so planning to start back up isn't particularly easy. Additionally, being away for that long will make it incredibly difficult for one person to maintain the standard of the open mic that we all have come to love. Meanwhile, Andrew plans to take some much needed R&R time for himself, while he focuses his energy on his original music. You will still certainly be seeing Andrew in and around the local scene as he does this.

When we started doing this 7 years ago, we wanted to be the welcoming, take everyone in, and give them space to be messy and themselves open mic. That was the place that we needed. And thanks to all of you, we can look back and feel like we achieved that goal. This may be the end of the open mic jam as we know it. but A&T are going to move into newer projects and are already working together on them. We hope you'll want to be involved too! Let's make some good final memories and find a way to stay connected. Thank you, again. We are so grateful to you and this scene and we love you!
